AFONSO CRUZ
Born in July 1971, Figueira da Foz, Afonso attended Lisbon School of Fine Arts and the Madeira’s Institute of Fine Arts. In 2008 he published his first novel “A Carne de Deus – Aventuras de Conra do Forster e Lola Benites” and since Afonso won several national and international awards: Camilo Castelo Branco Great Tale Award (2009); European Union Prize for Literature (2010), Best Book of the Year – PUBLICO Readers choice (2012) and he was considered by Expresso newspaper “one of 40 talents that we’ll talk about in the future”. Afonso signs, since February 2013, a monthly newspaper chronicle in Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias. In addition to writing he is an awarded illustrator (National Prize for Illustration 2014 – with “Capital” (Logical Duck, 2014), an animated film director and member of the portuguese band The Soaked Lamb.
