Born Jean Paul Béguin, he took the pseudonym D´Ylen in 1912, about the time of his first known poster. At twelve he was awarded silver and bronze medals for drawing from the city of Paris. In 1902 he began to design jewelry, but was his poster advertising of a soap, and featuring a woman in a bubble, that brought him his first great fame.
