Madalena Pequito (Lisbon, 1996) is a visual artist and currently works at FANICO studio. Throughout her career, she has promoted dialogue with other artists and participants in the field, especially the collective Vês.Três.

Her work addresses themes such as identity, cultural differences and collective memory. She explores the analogy between tree roots and human relationships, reflecting on the preservation of families, cultures and the struggle for identity. Her works also reveal the challenges of the artistic journey — such as sacrifices, insecurities and fears — and expand beyond painting, exploring space through pictorial installations.

In 2023, she was awarded the FLAD Prize, which financed two artistic residencies in New York: Kunstraum Llc and Mothership. Based on this work, she was invited to hold the solo exhibition “Shared Roots / Private Jokes”, in March 2024, at the Freight+Volume Gallery, in Tribeca, Manhattan. This exhibition was financially supported by FLAD and institutionally supported by the Instituto Camões and the Consulate General of Portugal in New York.

She participated in the international biennials Contextile (Guimarães, 2022) and ArtFem Macau (Macau, 2018), and was a finalist in awards such as Jovens Criadores, Prêmio Internacional de Artes da Guarda and Prêmio Paula Rego. She received an Honorable Mention at the Jovarte Biennial (2019).

Among his solo exhibitions, the following stand out: Migas Para Um (Erva Art Corner, Lisbon, 2025), Shared Roots / Private Jokes (Freight+Volume, New York, 2024), Como Construir um Vilão? (Galeria Passe Vite, Lisbon, 2023). He has also participated in several group exhibitions in Lisbon, New York, Macau and Budapest.
