Joana Dionísio
Photographer
She started her training in the area of Product Design, where she had contact with photography from an optional subject in the course. From that moment on, her interest in the image was developed and a desire to deepen her knowledge in this area arose. For this reason, she attended a degree in Audiovisual Communication Technologies, with a specialty in photography at the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts (Porto). Her work is characterized by a strand that reflects critical thinking about the different ways human beings relate to themselves and with others, and by a more autobiographical strand that explores themes such as memory and the archive. She uses photography to question some values that disturb her in contemporary society, namely those related to identity. This vision materializes through universes that are sometimes surreal, other times poetic and emotional, where realism and fiction go hand in hand. She participated in group exhibitions at the Portuguese Photography Center and at Palácio das Artes and in a solo exhibition at S.A. Bar Galeria in Ponte de Lima. Her video “Lady Perfection” was nominated for best auteur film director at the Porto Fashion Film Festival in 2017 and was exhibited at the XIX Bienal Internacional de Arte de Cerveira.
