Tiago Santos
Photographer
Born in Lapa, Lisbon (1984), he considers himself an amateur photographer who finds his greatest creative strength in continuity. His awakening to the visual world occurred in 2002, during his vocational course in Multimedia Technology in Idanha-a-Nova, a moment when image theory intersected with the practice that has accompanied him to this day. That same year, he received what would become his faithful companion on this journey: a Nikon D80.
In an era marked by rapid technological consumption, he favors using his “old” Nikon as his primary working tool, arguing that the photographer’s eye takes precedence over the novelty of the equipment. For him, photography centers above all on the moment and composition, whether through the familiar mechanics of his SLR or the spontaneity of the cell phone, used when the Nikon isn’t nearby.
His work establishes a dialogue between the technique acquired through training and the freedom of someone who photographs out of passion, capturing the world with the patience and intimacy of someone who has known every detail of his camera for over two decades.
