Born and raised in Portimão, Algarve, Cristiana Morais (1987) began using the camera at an early age to document the beauty that surrounds her. Her work offers a gentle look at fashion, music, friends, strangers and well-known icons. Her approach to analog photography is both forward-looking and nostalgic. Her portraits, enveloped in an intimate atmosphere, have a performative character, with a clear aesthetic concern.
The styling, composition and colors are the triad of a carefully thought-out staging. The most candid moments seem perfectly orchestrated. The protagonists, be they a group of residents in Cova da Moura or a renowned artist, share the same aura, with the disarming confidence of those who defy the camera, eyes fixed on the lens. In fashion, in front of, but also behind the camera, Cristiana has found a unique way of communicating, fine-tuning a voice that screams freedom from rules, expectations and body standards.
